    FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT - STAYTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
    FSA I - 4.5 hours/day

    Starting Pay: $16.13 – $21.14/hour (based on prior, verifiable experience)

    This position follows the school year schedule and is dependent on staffing needs and budget approval. Specific assignment may vary.


    Job Goal:                              
    To assist in the preparation of food, serving, and cleanup of the kitchen/ cafeteria area. Primarily, the dishwasher is operated effectively and safely.

    Distinguishing Characteristics: Positions assigned to the Food Service Assistant I classification are distinguished by the responsibility to assist the manager with basic food preparation and a primary function as a dishwasher.

    Essential Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability needed for the position.
    1. At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
    2. Hold a valid Food Handler Card and valid driver’s license
    3. Comfortable with computers and following written/oral directions
    4. Able to follow recipes and maintain food safety standards
    5. Friendly, organized, and able to work well with others, including students and staff
    6. Ability to serve food, including meats and other main dishes, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, work in portion control, and handle money
    7. Ability to learn to operate industrial kitchen equipment (dishwashers, mixers, ovens, etc.)
    8. Ability to supervise student helpers who work in the kitchen / cafeteria
    9. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff
    10. Committed to maintaining confidentiality and a high level of ethics
    11. Able to pass a Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
    12. Capable of performing physical tasks like lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing for long periods, and working in hot/cold environments
    13. May be required to complete a pre-employment physical
    14. Perform physical requirements, which may include:
                   A.  Moderate degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.                 
                   B.  Frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and prolonged periods of standing                
                   C.  Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, and sharp and moving equipment                 
                   D.  Requires coordination and dexterity to serve foods                 
                   E.   Ability to move freely around the kitchen and storage areas to perform duties
                   F.   Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable      

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Help prepare food items, including sandwiches and salad bar components
    2. Assist in routine kitchen duties
    3. Assist in the serving of food to students and staff, ensuring supplies of food and beverages are maintained and spills cleaned up, and/or delivery of food service products to other buildings
    4. Assist in cleaning up, putting food away, storing equipment, washing dishes, scrubbing pots and pans, cleaning food serving areas, sinks, tables, etc.
    5. Following standards of efficiency and sanitation set by the Health Department and Food Service Manager II/ Food Service Director
    6. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff
    7. Participate in in-service training as assigned
    8. Step in for Food Service Assistant II when needed
    9. Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem appropriate to the Board or Administration
