4th July Stayton Grande Parade | Stayton
Our 2024 Parade Grand Marshal is Randy Forrette! Randy has been a driving force behind the Stayton Booster Club’s phenomenal growth and success over the last decade. Stayton High School Athletic Director Darren Shyrock stated, “Randy is an amazing person who has done incredible things for Stayton High School. The list of things he has been involved with here could go on for a long, long time. It has been a school district/booster cooperation for most of the projects, but Randy has been the key cog for just about all of them.”
After joining the Booster Club in 2013, Randy’s first significant project to be involved with was the installation of the artificial turf for the football field. “We partnered with the school district to make it happen. (District Superintendent) Andy Gardner and (Athletic Director) Darren Shryock provided an opportunity to build booster momentum, and we took it” Randy said. That project was the beginning of many major improvements accomplished by the Booster Club. He continued, “Once the field was perfect, we realized the buildings needed repairs and paint. We had volunteers willing to work. They weren’t just focused on their kids’ sports. We realized that beautifying the school helps all sports, athletes, coaches, teachers… the turf field was the beginning for me."
Randy’s favorite project though is the one currently underway, the building of the new Ty Hart Memorial Fitness Center scheduled to be completed by this fall. “Seeing the time, effort, and money that our community is willing to provide for our high school students is humbling and inspiring. When I started with the boosters, we were happy to raise $30k a year. This building and new field entrance is over 1.5 million and it’s 100% donated.”
But what he is most proud of is the booster club itself. “Just like fixing up a shed and putting a new coat of paint on it, we worked to improve ourselves. When I started, we were still recovering from some previous issues. We had about 7 boosters and no real resources. Over the years, we’ve built sustainable income streams, took our auction from $30k to $300k, solidified our by-laws, added band and choir to the teams we support, doubled our scholarships, built a booster food truck, built four new buildings (including the baseball and softball hitting facilities) and did a redesign of our main gym, added road cleanups in our communities, improved every sports structure… but most importantly, we learned how to be boosters. And I’d add, we are one of the best booster clubs anywhere!”
We agree that Grand Marshal Randy Forrette and the Stayton Booster Club he represents, greatly exemplify the meaning of our 2024 theme, Freedom to Serve.
