The Marion Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a free class on Urban Chicken Keeping and Soil Health from 7 ? 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Chester Bridges Memorial Community Center, 555 Main St., Aumsville. This class is one of a four part series of conservation workshops put on in conjunction with the City of Aumsville. James ?Jim? Hermes, OSU Extension poultry specialist for the department of animal and rangeland sciences will discuss chicken keeping in an urban environment. Hermes works with the commercial poultry industry, small commercial and urban poultry owners. Marion SWCD soil, water and riparian specialist, Brenda Sanchez, will discuss how to compost and keep soil healthy. Sanchez has a diverse background in soil and water quality management concentrating her efforts on restoring function to riparian areas, sustaining soil health, improving water quality and assisting with vegetation management.
