History Talks- Basques In Oregon
In Oregon, Basque people came initially from the gold fields of California and then directly from their European homeland. They settled in the Jordan Valley and later spread throughout eastern Oregon, northern Nevada, and western Idaho. They were noted sheepherders and maintained their cultural institutions, language, and religion for many generations in their new home. This series has been funded by grants from Oregon Historical Society and Marion Cultural Development Corporation and admission will be free. Docent guided tours of the Brown House will also be offered with light refreshments available.
