April is Citizen Science Month
Citizen Science Month, observed annually in April, is a celebration of all things citizen and community science and engages people from all walks of life in real research anytime, anywhere, on topics from astronomy to zoology. Citizen science is real science done by people like you! There are resources to match your interests with real scientific studies. Whether you share pictures from your garden to help track plant and animal species populations or take a walk in your own neighborhood with a personal air monitor, you can contribute! If you're interested in seeing what you can participate in to match your interests, visit scistarter.org.
Stayton Public Library has added three Citizen Science Kits to its Library of Things collection that feature specialized tools to encourage active participation in scientific research!
Citizen Science Kits available:
- Exploring Biodiversity - Document and identify plants and animals around you.
- Observing Pollinators - Identify and count pollinators as they visit flowering plants.
- Measuring Light in the Night - Help gather light pollution data.
