Job Description
CASE MANAGER

SUMMARY:

We are looking for a dependable, compassionate, justice seeker to join our team
as a Case Manager, and help support children and families experiencing foster
care. Sound like you? Perfect. Keep reading....

Austin Angels is an innovative and impactful nonprofit that seeks to change the way children, youth and families experience the foster care system. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and foster parents should be radically supported on their journey. We exist because of that belief. We believe that if we can support every child, youth, and family in the foster care system in the nation in our programs, we have a great chance of changing the world we live in. We believe that our greatest ability to achieve this mission is by attracting, developing, and retaining the best team members possible.

At the core, we believe the solution to foster care is engaging the whole community. The model is simple - develop and empower teams of volunteers to provide holistic support to families and mentorship to teens. Our programs are ultimately driven by the healing power of consistent healthy relationships.
Austin Angels core values are:
Hope - We lead with hope because we deeply believe in our ability to create a better future.
Community - We cultivate togetherness by treating everyone with dignity, respect, and compassion. We are better together.
Empowerment - We empower our community to take action rooted in the belief that we have responsibility to one another. Together, we remove barriers to create lasting change.
Curiosity - We maintain an attitude of humble curiosity, putting aside judgment to seek truth, knowledge, and understanding. We remain lifelong learners to better ourselves and our community.
Transformation - We are social entrepreneurs who refuse to settle for the way things are. We are committed to creating an environment that allows everyone to realize and fulfill their talents and potential. By doing so, we will transform the world we live in.
Our fast-growing organization has a start-up mentality, but also a level of professionalism and drive that is not found in most nonprofits. There is a LOT of opportunity within our organization and we are looking for a creative, innovative self-starter who exudes these five core competencies: Passion, Professionalism, Initiative, Positivity, and Adaptability.

HISTORY:

Established in 2010, Austin Angels walks alongside children, youth, and families in the foster care community by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building, and mentorship. Our programs are created to help empower children and build sustainable foster homes. Our solution to changing the statistics and negative outcomes surrounding foster care are the Love Box (family support) program and Dare to Dream MAP™ (youth mentor program). Our programs utilize a trauma-informed, wrap-around service model that strengthens relationships between foster families, youth in foster care, and bio families. Austin Angels is the flagship chapter and in 2016, National Angels launched its first chapter in Amarillo, Texas and has since grown to open 19 chapters across the Nation operating programs in 14 states. We have conducted a process and outcome evaluation of our program  in partnership with Texas Institute for Family & Child Wellbeing at UT [TXICFW] which you can read more about here.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The main role of a case manager involves the matching and management of matched cases. Cases are what we call each “match” with a foster family + volunteer/volunteer group for the Love Box Program and the “match” with youth in foster care + mentor for the Dare to Dream MAP™.

Case Managers recruit, screen, onboard, and train volunteers/mentors who are mission and values-aligned. They also recruit, screen, and onboard families and youth experiencing foster care in need of programmatic support.

Case Managers facilitate the introduction of each match, conduct an assessment to establish how our programs can offer tailored support, and monitor and respond to the ongoing success and challenges with matched cases by engaging volunteers/mentors and families/youth in regular dialogue about progress and impact of the [Chapter Name] Angels program. This also involves creating case profiles, gathering stories to be used in impact reports and marketing and tracking data on the success of each Austin Angels match.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work as directed to support the mission and values of Austin Angels
  • Engage in discussions around sensitive topics including child abuse, neglect, trauma, mental health, poverty, substance abuse, generational cycles, trust-based relational intervention [TBRI®], rehabilitation, social adjustment, therapeutic needs, cultural humility, case trajectory, family preservation and child relational concerns. • Assist with recruiting new volunteers/mentors. Ability to speak about programs during networking and/or presentations for volunteer recruitment.
  • Screen families and youth to ensure that clients meet eligibility standards
  • Facilitate strengths assessment/initial meetup between foster family/youth and
volunteer/mentor and conduct training for volunteer groups/mentors. These

    family availability.
  • Respond to all volunteer interest from website/direct email within 24 hours during the work week.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local CPAs (child placement agencies) and other child welfare organizations.
  • Interview volunteers to find the best match within the Austin Angels organization.
  • Gather foster family referrals and/or foster youth information including their background information, needs, and child information to determine the best volunteer match to meet their needs.
  • Ensure volunteers complete all on-board requirements. Serve as a liaison between volunteer, foster family and placement agency.
  • Maintain case history records and prepare impact reports from testimonies of foster families, youth, and children served through programs.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of volunteer contact and tracking of relational outcomes for children/youth in the Austin Angels program.
  • Resolve program complaints and requests to change volunteer matching arrangements.
  • Create and send monthly tracking forms and newsletters with updates and provide program direction.
  • Identify and collaborate with other local partners to provide resources to families and youth referred to Austin Angels.
  • Attend and serve at events including fundraising, community awareness initiatives, events for families, youth, and children which often occur over weekends or evenings. These events include the Entrepreneur Workshop, Spring Break Family Camp, Summer/Fall Family Camp, Back to School Event, Annual Gala etc.
  • Supervise and mentor case management intern.
