ELECTRICAL & CONTROLS JOURNEYMAN 1

The Electrical & Controls Journeyman I reports to the Electrical Supervisor. This position is in a broad class and performs a variety of skilled electrical, instrument, and communications work.
The Electrical and Controls Journeyman 1 will provide process controls and PLC support at all Freres Manufacturing Facilities. They will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all facility electrical control systems, all PLC controls networking, and HMI systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
• Experience using CMMS and work orders.
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s, writing and modifying programs.
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills allowing one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
• Instrumentation experience in flow meters, temperature (RTD and thermocouple), pressure, and level transducers, control valves, smart meters, schematics & wiring diagrams. Experience with tunning PID loops.
• Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques in the design and operation of automated process control systems and their components.
• Must be able to read electrical schematics.
• Strong work ethic, good judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and other safety standards of equipment and lockout/tag out.
• Consistently promote high standards through personal example.
• Collaborates with departments, production managers, electrical and maintenance personnel to translate work requirements into clear achievable plans.
• Inform and request feedback from Electrical Supervisor
• Deploy fast action response teams with clear guidance and direction during upset machine conditions.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances and maintain a clean and environmentally safe work area.
• Contribute to the overall success and continued growth of the facility by always adding value to the organization and willingly participating in tasks assigned that are outside the scope of this job description, but within the capabilities of the employee.
• Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect irregularities and malfunctions. Assist with troubleshooting and analyzing difficult machinery and process issues.
• Make preventative and running repairs and corrections.
• Must keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
• Maintain, calibrate and repair pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, indicating and control instruments/equipment.
• Make systems modifications to correct errors and optimize system performance.
• Originate, engineer, specify and procure material for new control equipment installations and existing control system upgrades and additions.
• Participate in the development of systems documentation, trains operations and maintenance staff on how to use tools and applications developed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and communications problems and perform database administration functions for both real-time and historical databases.
• Troubleshoot control system failures and make necessary repairs.
• Work closely with management, millwrights, electricians, and production personnel.

• Good work history/ attendance record. No write-ups within the last year of employment.

Responsibilities are not limited to the above-mentioned and may include assisting other branches with reasonable and related tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Standing for an extended period-of-time
• Flexible Schedule: Working shift work and weekends. Also have the ability to be called back during emergencies
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to frequently walk distances, climb ladders, climb up on equipment, or stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Exposed to airborne particles, dust, dirt and frequent high levels of noise.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and/or squat frequently.
• Exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and indoor conditions, including variations in temperature and conditions.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
• Consistently works near on or around mechanical and electrical parts.
• Frequent reaching, handling, carrying, and balancing.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 3 years of PLC, HMI and Electrical programming and troubleshooting experience in an industrial setting required; wood products preferred.
• Some Saturday work and on-call work expected.
• Proven leadership skills
• Good analytical, problem-solving skills, computer and math skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
• Positive and Excellent Interpersonal and Customer Service skills
• Minimum of Current Oregon Manufaturing Plant Electrician license
