Job Description
Position Open Until Filled City of Stayton Job Announcement Police Officer - Lateral The City of Stayton is seeking qualified applicants for a Lateral Police Officer position. The successful candidate will protect life and property, control and arrest offenders of the law, handle disturbances of the peace, and prevent crime by enforcing Federal, State, and Local Laws. Carry out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and Codes. Department Overview The Stayton Police Department is a proactive and innovative law enforcement agency that looks at finding new and innovative ways to partner with residents and stakeholders to resolve problems for the future of Stayton and the Santiam Canyon communities. If chosen, you will be working for a City of approximately 8,000 people. While Salem is nearby, you’ll be working in a rural community that is close to the Santiam Canyon, and provides access to fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, and many other recreational activities.

Qualifications To be considered a qualified lateral applicant, you must currently be certified as an Oregon Police Officer, successfully completed a minimum twelve (12) month probationary period and have a minimum of two (2) years full-time on the job experience. Additionally, candidates must pass a background and psychological evaluation. Out-of-state applicants must be eligible to become Oregon certified by attending the 80-hour Police Career Officer’s Development Course offered by the Department of Police Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and have successfully completed the NTN written test offered at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Out-of-state candidates must take and pass the NTN examination before advancing in the process. Salary starts at $67,736.96 to $82,334.67 annually depending on education, experience, and training plus benefits, Oregon PERS/OPSRP, and incentives (i.e., education, certification, etc.).
