Your Role With Us:
The Operations Specialist II in the Salem Health Operating Room, manages incoming and outgoing communications at the OR Control Desk. In this role, you are expected to maintain awareness of all Operating Room happenings while assuming a supportive role in the absence of the charge nurse or leader.

Core Functions:
  • Manages incoming and outgoing communications at the OR Control Desk relaying important information to appropriate persons.
  • Receives records and relays messages accurately and timely to appropriate staff.
  • Accurately and completely records add-on cases prioritized in accordance with department policy as consistently as any elective case.
  • Maintains acute awareness of surgical procedures, surgeons, personnel and room statuses at all times and record updates as appropriate. Consistently priorities multiple requests.
  • Anticipates schedule-changes and understands the appropriate communication to initiate and maintains consistent follow-through of communication.
  • Understands proper surgery scheduling policy, Epic functions, block utilization parameters, and data management objectives.
  • Anticipates, confirms and controls all non-hospital employee access to OR suites, verifies appropriate attire and identification, redirects as appropriate.
  • Works with Charge Nurse to build daily call schedule and post shift vacancies in a timely manner, as needed.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of Medical Terminology Course or equivalent experience (five (5) years in a similar position).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent general office experience required.
