WORK DAYS: 86
SALARY: $14.62 - $18.24/hour, depending upon experience
In addition, we pay your PERS contribution.

Job Goal: To assist in the preparation of food, serving, and cleanup of the kitchen/ cafeteria area. Primarily operates the dishwasher effectively and safely.
 
Distinguishing Characteristics: Positions assigned to the Food Service Assistant I classification are distinguished by the responsibility to assist the manager with basic food preparation and a primary function as a dishwasher.
 
Essential Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability needed for the position.
 
  • Must have a current Food Handler Card.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must have ability to operate computer programs.
  • Must be able to take both oral and written direction and implement those directives.
  • Must have ability to follow recipes and follow food standards for maintaining food safety.
  • Must have ability to interact with students, staff and the public portraying a positive image for the School District Food Service Program.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to serve food, including meats and other main dishes, salads, sandwiches, desserts, work in portion control, and handle money
  • Ability to learn to operate industrial dishwashers, mixers, ovens, other related school kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils
  • Ability to supervise student helpers who work in the kitchen/ cafeteria
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) whit students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Preemployment physical may be required
  • Perform physical requirements which may include:
 
A. Moderate degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
 
B. Frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and prolonged periods of standing
 
C. Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, and sharp and moving equipment
 
D. Requires coordination and dexterity to serve foods
 
E. Ability to move freely around the kitchen and storage areas to perform duties
 
F. Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Basic preparation of food, such as sandwiches, and salad bar in a safe manner
  • Assist in routine kitchen duties
  • Assist in the serving of food to students and staff, ensuring supplies of food and beverages are maintained and spills cleaned up and/or delivery of foodservice products to other buildings
  • Assist in cleaning up, putting food away, storing equipment, washing dishes, scrubbing pots and pans, cleaning food serving areas, sinks, tables, etc.
  • Following standards of efficiency and sanitation set by the Health Department and Food Service Manager II/ Food Service Director
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff
  • Participate in in-service training as assigned
  • Able to fill in for Food Service Assistant II in their absence
  • Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem appropriate to the Board or Administration
